Why can't a doll be both? Aren't we all diverse? I lettered in tennis in high school, but I loved a frilly dress, and I wore skirts all the time (muscular legs - back then). I don't see why they can't make each doll a sport outfit, a dress-up outfit, a play outfit, and a sleepover outfit. After all, we don't dress the same for every activity!

We have both sides covered here, DD1 loves Lindsey and Jess I thik because she is more of a tomboy, ie soccer, tennis, and just plain YUK things as her sister always says. I also think DD1 loves Jess due to the history aspects, when we were in Chicago last year I had to DRAG her from the Egyptian Exhibit and she is eagerly awaiting our visit this year for the Tut exhibit so that may draw her to Jess.
DD2 on the other hand loves all these dolls but tends to lean to Marisol and Kailey because she has been dancing since she was 4. She just thought Kailey was "too cute" but DD2 is my girly girl for sure, she evens hates to get sand from the beach on herself. She is most at home in the art studio or at the ballet barre or reading a book. She will dress and change doll clothing for HOURS.
For me - it just means more good reasons to buy ALL the dolls!!

I voted outdoorsy, but really I just wish they'd make more stuff that looks like little girls would wear.
As I contemplate getting my first AGT, I'm finding most of the stuff I want is retired. I like the "girly" stuff that looked like 10-year-old girls would wear it. The Gala outfit, for example, doesn't look like anything any little girl I know wears. But the old Ice Blue and Petal Pink outfits do. Just a few examples.
And I do think they're lacking what many little girls have as staples in their closets- basic jeans, t-shirts, sweaters, and such.
I also miss a lot of the less traditional sports outfits- like the rock climbing and skateboarding and fly fishing ones. I grew up backpacking and fishing and rock climbing, not playing soccer and tennis. I think quite a few girls hike and camp through GS and with parents, and doing some outfits like that would give a more well-rounded approach to girls' sports.
I'd also like to see an expansion of the horse stuff. Tons of little girls take lessons and show and this stuff would sell like hot cakes I think. I think the old Equestrian outfit was great- more like what little girls wear to school in and show at the lower hunter levels. They should add a Western Pleasure outfit with little chaps and the girly-girl sparkles on the outfit and lots of silver and flash. Maybe a little grooming apron with tiny brushes and curry combs and whatnot and a real horse blanket and halter (rather than the awful horse accessory set they currently have). My dream outfit would be a dressage outfit, but there's little chance of that- but could you imagine a little Shadbelly coat with tails and a top hat?! How cute would that be!
Finally, would love to see more ethnic costumes. I think they ought to do a Middle Eastern Muslim doll to round out the diversity and help promote cross-cultural understanding, but I'm sure they'd be worried about sales. I just think it's sad that there are no dollie representatives of the beautiful girls from Iran and India and so forth. I'd love an Indian girl with a Sari.

Does anyone else think that maybe the fact that Jess's sales are down a bit may be due to the fact that they put another Limited Edition out right after Marisol was retired? In the cases of all of the other Limited Edition dolls there was at least 1 1/2 - 2 years between release dates, wasn't there? I'm wondering if it is the case of people just not having the money to buy Jess or not being able to buy her yet (but they may before the end of the year). I know a lot of people cannot afford to buy dolls very often! It could be that Jess's sales will catch up to Marisols or if AG had waited until 2007 to release her, it may have made a difference too.
I personally love both Marisol and Jess and feel that they both are very unique and beautiful dolls. So far I'm not really into either of their collections all that much, but I love both of the dolls. - Meg B.

We love Jess and Marisol too. I personally think Marisol has more "play" value with her stage, trunk and three outfits. Plus a lot of girls have danced at some time in their lives if not at the present.
Jess's tree swing is really neat but DD has not played with it at all. Jess just sits there and DD doesn't like the fact that her head is behind the bar. As for the Kayak...it's just too big to have out all of the time.
I really like Marisol's face mold better and her hair is more "playable" too.

Admittedly I bought Marisol after I read the book, and I bought the book to find out what the big deal was with the controversy.
I think the fact that Marisol was a dancer appealed to all the little girls taking dance lessons. It seemed that every girl at my daughter's studio all wanted her. I think if AG came out with a soccer-playing doll she, too, would have a following. And since Jess is the fourth LE doll, I'll bet some people just said "no" to adding another doll just to add to a collection.
But I think Jess' story is much better than Marisol's. I also like the fact that her collection is small and therefore more affordable. I have much less financial angst buying her collection than Marisol's. (Santa is bringing Jess for Christmas and has delivered her to my office for safe keeping.)

I believe that Jess would improve in sales if AG would add to her collection. She needs more clothes. I wanted to dress Jess in her skirt but a halter top is too cool for our area. I decided to make her a top to match her skirt. I buy the XL size adult tee shirts from Michael's and cut them apart. I can use the fabric and the ribbing for doll shirts. I used a mini Butterfly design on my embroidery machine to make it special for Jess. I then decided to have my friend that makes doll clothes as a business to make the shirts. I wanted it to have more of a jewel neckline instead of the ribbing. I also bought a Child's size tee shirt and did the butterfly design on it for a granddaughter of our friends. They gave her Jess for Easter. I sent my friend a design to make her Jess a shirt also. I took the skirt to match the fabric and used a hot pink color. The design called for two different thread colors so I matched the golden yellow for the main part of the butterfly and a medium beige thread for the accents. I am now thinking, after reading this thread of adding some crystals at the neckline to add some glitz!

How about some outdoorsy/girly skorts for Jess and/or AGOTs!
I actually love both dolls (Marisol & Jess). I don't necessarily care for their respective clothing and accessories.
